Introduction

As Christian moms raising kids with ADHD, we often wrestle with feelings of guilt, exhaustion, and fear for the future. We desperately want to affirm our children—especially when the world seems to be doing the opposite. That’s why I created this list of ADHD Bible verses.

God’s Word has the power to shape how our children see themselves and how we parent them.

This post comes with a free printable of 50 Bible verses for ADHD, grouped by 10 powerful topics that speak into your child’s identity, peace, confidence, and future.

These Scriptures for ADHD have comforted me on the hardest days with my son—days when he’s been labeled, misunderstood, or overwhelmed. I speak these verses over him in the morning, during bedtime prayers, or in those whisper-prayers I shoot up when he’s melting down in public.

Let this be your reminder: God’s Word never returns void—and your child’s ADHD is no match for the power of Scripture.

Why It’s Important to Speak Bible verses Over Your ADHD Child

The world can be loud in labeling our kids—“disruptive,” “impulsive,” “too much.” But God’s voice is louder.

When we speak the truth of Scripture over our children, we are planting seeds that speak life, not labels. We are shaping their identity in Christ, not their diagnosis.

Our ADHD kids already face so much internal struggle. Speaking Bible verses for ADHD reminds them—and us—of who they really are: loved, chosen, created with purpose, and never alone.

Declaring Bible verses over your beloved children also improves your parenting by grace style.

How to Speak Scripture Over Your Child

You don’t have to be a Bible scholar. You can pray these verses over your child, insert their name into the text, or even write them on sticky notes for the fridge or lunchbox.

For example, instead of just reading Isaiah 41:10, you can say, “Andrew, do not be afraid, for God is with you. Don’t be discouraged, because He will strengthen you and help you.”

Replace ‘ Andrew’  with your child’s name.

Personalizing ADHD Bible verses makes the truth of Scripture feel close and real. And guess what? Even if your child doesn’t fully understand it yet, the Word is working in their heart.

Speak the Bible verses for ADHD also over your child during your personal quiet time with God. God hears. And He manifests His Word. You can trust Him.

You can use almost every Scripture in the Bible to speak (and pray) over your ADHD child. Make sure it is positive and trust God to manifest it.

You can also use the ADHD Bible verse scriptures during your (fun!) ADHD family devotion time.

To help you get started, I created an overview with encouraging ADHD Bible verses. You can also get them in the free printable at the end of this blog.

Identity in Christ

One of the hardest things for me was watching my son internalize the constant corrections and criticisms. I knew it was damaging his self-image. That’s when I began speaking Scriptures about identity—reminding him (and myself) that ADHD does not define him. God does.

These verses remind your child of who they are in Jesus, not defined by behavior or diagnosis.

  1. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
  2. “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)
  3. “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)
  4. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
  5. “See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1 (NLT)

Peace and Calming

On days filled with meltdowns, noise, and restlessness, I used to feel like peace was impossible. But peace isn’t about circumstances—it’s about God’s presence. These Scriptures became my go-to calming balm.

For those days when everything feels chaotic or overstimulating.

  1. “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)
  2. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
  3. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 (ESV)
  4. “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” Psalm 94:19 (NIV)
  5. “The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.” Psalm 29:11 (NLT)

Confidence and Courage

My son often struggles with fear of failure. These verses help me remind him that he can try again because God is with him.

When your child feels different or discouraged, these verses are spiritual fuel.

  1. “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
  2. “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.” Hebrews 10:35 (NIV)
  3. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
  4. “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13 (NIV)
  5. “The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 (NLT)

Wish you had someone who gets it? Someone who understands the meltdowns, the misjudgments, the mom-guilt?

That’s why I became a parenting coach for moms of ADHD kids. Let’s connect and create a new way forward—with grace, strength, and Jesus at the center.

Wisdom and Focus

We pray every morning before school, and these are the Scriptures I speak over my son to help him stay focused and wise in class—even when it’s hard.

Perfect for praying over school struggles, restlessness, or executive function challenges.

  1. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 (NIV)
  2. “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
  3. “Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands.” Psalm 119:66 (NIV)
  4. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)
  5. “For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6 (NLT)

Joy and Gratitude

Even when our days are chaotic, joy is still possible. These verses remind my son that joy can be found even when life feels overwhelming.

Even in the hard and hurried moments, these Scriptures can help you and your child choose joy and thankfulness over frustration and fear.

  1. “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV)
  2. “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (NLT)
  3. “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)
  4. “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” Philippians 4:4 (ESV)
  5. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NIV)

Self-Control and Impulse Management

Self-control is a real challenge for ADHD kids. These verses help us pray for the fruit of the Spirit and trust God’s refining process.

When self-control feels impossible, let these verses guide your prayers and help you speak life over your child’s daily struggles.

  1. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
  2. “A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.” Proverbs 25:28 (NLT)
  3. “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness.” 2 Peter 1:5-6 (NIV)
  4. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
  5. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2 (NIV)

God’s Love and Presence

When my son says things like, “Nobody likes me,” I speak these Scriptures. I want him to know God’s love isn’t based on behavior—it’s unconditional.

These Scriptures are powerful reminders that no behavior or diagnosis can separate your child—or you—from the love of God.

  1. “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” Romans 8:38-39 (NLT)
  2. “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1 (NLT)
  3. “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
  4. “See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” Isaiah 49:16 (NIV)
  5. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

Strength and Endurance

Parenting an ADHD child is a marathon, not a sprint. These Bible verses for strength and endurance are for those days when we both feel like giving up.

When you feel physically, emotionally, and spiritually worn out, these verses can breathe fresh strength into your weary soul.

  1. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
  2. “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (ESV)
  3. “The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.” Psalm 28:7 (NLT)
  4. “The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.” Habakkuk 3:19 (NIV)
  5. “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Obedience and Listening

Following directions doesn’t come easy to kids with ADHD. These verses help us pray for hearts that listen and obey—not out of fear, but love.

Instead of striving for perfect obedience, let these Scriptures shape a heart that hears God’s voice and responds in love.

  1. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.” Ephesians 6:1 (NIV)
  2. “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.” Proverbs 1:8 (NIV)
  3. “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22 (NIV)
  4. “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 (NIV)
  5. “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11 (NIV)

Purpose and Future

When others said, “He’ll grow out of it,” I used to feel so alone. Now I know: he won’t grow out of ADHD, but he will grow into who God made him to be. These verses are my declarations over his future.

God has a plan for your child’s life that no diagnosis, detour, or difficulty can derail—let these verses anchor your hope.

  1. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
  2. “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
  3. “For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.” Romans 11:29 (NIV)
  4. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)
  5. “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” Psalm 138:8 (NIV)

These scriptures can help us see ADHD as God sees it.
